Service overview

Complete Wet Room Installation Services

We install wet rooms with properly formed falls, suitable drainage and a complete tanking system behind the finished surfaces. Our work can include lifting the existing floor, altering pipework, fitting a wet-room floor former and installing a linear channel or point drain. We commonly find that drainage position and floor construction determine what layout will work, so we check these details before agreeing the design. We then coordinate the plumbing, waterproofing, tiling and finishing work through one contractor.

A wet room can provide easier access, make better use of a restricted floor area or support changing mobility needs. It can also work well in rural and coastal cottages across East Lothian, where uneven floors, older pipe routes and limited drainage depths need careful planning. Call us when you are considering a new wet room, dealing with a failed installation or trying to prevent water from escaping into an adjoining room. We assess the structure and drainage first, explain the workable options and quote for the complete job.

The showering side is covered by shower and bath plumbing, and we can add underfloor heating or radiators to the room.

What we cover

What Wet Room Installation Covers

  1. Complete Wet Room Installation

We manage the installation from the initial survey through to final testing. This includes planning the layout, preparing the floor, altering water and waste pipes, tanking the wet area and coordinating the tiled finish.

  2. Wet-Room Tanking Systems

We apply a waterproofing system to the floor and relevant wall areas before tiling. We seal junctions with tanking tape, preformed corners and pipe-penetration collars so water cannot track behind the finished surfaces.

  3. Liquid and Sheet Waterproofing Membranes

We select a compatible liquid or sheet membrane for the surface and proposed finish. Our installers follow the required coverage, overlap and curing process rather than relying on tiles and grout to stop water.

  4. Wet-Room Floor Formers

We fit floor formers that create the fall needed to direct water towards the drain. We check joist positions, floor height and waste depth before choosing a former, particularly where level access matters.

  5. Linear Channels and Point Drains

We install linear shower channels or point drains to suit the room layout and floor falls. We also check the wet-room waste trap and available discharge route, as restricted depth can affect the final drain position.

  6. Tiling Over Tanking

We tile over the completed tanking system using compatible preparation and fixing materials. We pay close attention to floor falls, tile format and drain edges because poor setting-out can leave water sitting on the floor.

Before you decide

Common Wet Room Problems We Solve

  • My Wet Room Is Leaking

Failed seals, damaged joints, loose drain connections and incomplete tanking can all cause leaks. We commonly inspect the drain, corners, wall-to-floor junctions and pipe penetrations first. If the waterproofing has failed behind the tiles, replacing surface sealant alone will not provide a lasting repair.

  • Water Escapes Into the Next Room

Water can cross the doorway when the floor falls are too shallow, the drainage cannot clear water quickly enough or the wet area lacks suitable containment. We assess the floor levels and water flow, then explain whether changes to the falls, drainage or doorway detail can resolve the problem.

  • I Need a Wet Room for Reduced Mobility

We plan level-access wet rooms around how the customer will enter, move and use the space. We discuss drain position, floor grip, controls and available clearances before setting the layout. For grant-funded accessibility adaptations in East Lothian, we can quote against the agreed work specification.

  • I Am Unsure What a Wet Room Will Cost

Wet room costs depend on the floor construction, drainage route, room size, tanking method, tile choice and required alterations. We quote per job after inspecting the property. This lets us price the actual preparation and installation rather than giving a figure that excludes essential work.

How We Handle Your Wet Room Installation

  • 1. Consultation and Site Survey

We discuss how you intend to use the wet room and inspect the available space. We check the floor construction, existing pipework, waste route, access requirements and likely finished floor height. This survey gives us the information needed to propose a workable layout.

  • 2. Design and Written Quotation

We set out the wet area, drainage position, floor former and waterproofing method, and plan grab rails and safety fittings where the wet room needs to be accessible. We then provide a job-specific quotation based on the agreed scope. Your contact explains the sequence, what preparation we need and which decisions you must make before installation.

  • 3. Preparation and Installation

We remove the agreed fixtures and finishes, prepare the structure and complete the plumbing alterations. Our team fits the floor former, drain and wet-room waste trap before applying the specified tanking system. One point of contact coordinates the trades throughout the job.

  • 4. Finishing and Testing

We lay any underfloor heating, tile the tanked surfaces, complete the drainage details and fit the agreed wet-room components. We test water flow towards the drain and check joints, seals and pipe connections. Before handover, we explain routine cleaning and how to protect seals and drainage parts.

Common questions

Wet Room Installation Questions

We quote each wet room individually because floor construction, drainage access, tanking, tiles and plumbing alterations affect the cost. After a site survey, we provide a quotation based on the agreed specification. This approach avoids a low starting price that leaves out necessary preparation.

We can discuss practical ways to control the cost without cutting back on waterproofing or drainage work. Keeping pipework near existing routes, choosing standard tile formats and avoiding unnecessary layout changes may reduce labour or material costs. We explain which parts of the specification can change safely.

The timescale depends on structural preparation, drainage alterations, tanking cure times, tiling and the room's condition. We confirm the expected programme after surveying the property and agreeing the design. We do not rush waterproofing stages that need preparation or curing time.

We install wet rooms in rural and coastal cottages across East Lothian, subject to a site survey. Older properties can have uneven floors, shallow voids or difficult waste routes. We inspect these points before deciding how to form the falls and achieve the required drainage.

A wet room can remove the step into a conventional tray and provide a more open washing area. We plan the layout around the person's current needs, available clearances and intended fittings. Where an East Lothian project has grant funding, we can quote from the approved specification.

We investigate the source before recommending repairs. The fault may sit around the drain, at a pipe penetration, behind a loose tile or within the wall-to-floor tanking joint. We explain whether a local repair is suitable or whether the failed area requires more extensive removal and re-tanking.

Haggart Plumbers takes calls from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. We arrange a suitable survey time for East Lothian properties, inspect the proposed room and gather the details needed for a job-specific quotation.
