Service overview

Complete Radiator Installation & Repair Services

We install new radiators, replace old or damaged models and repair faults affecting individual radiators and valves. Our work covers panel, column, designer, cast-iron and low-surface-temperature radiators, as well as heated towel rails. We also fit thermostatic radiator valves, replace lockshield valves, move radiators and add extra units where the existing pipework allows. We commonly check the radiator output against the room size rather than simply replacing the old unit with one of identical dimensions. Radiator depth, panel arrangement and available wall space all affect the choice.

Call us when a radiator leaks, stays cold, heats unevenly, makes persistent noise or shows signs of corrosion. We also help when a room never feels warm enough or an existing radiator blocks planned furniture or renovation work. In Edinburgh tenements, we often work with column or cast-iron radiators and units positioned beneath bay windows. We assess the fittings, valves, wall construction and pipe route before recommending repair, repositioning or replacement.

A leaking valve often needs leak detection first, and a persistently cold radiator can point to a boiler fault.

What we cover

What Radiator Installation & Repair Covers

  1. Radiator Installation and Replacement

We remove the old radiator, check the existing connections and fit a correctly sized replacement. Where dimensions differ, we alter the exposed pipework neatly, secure suitable wall brackets and test the new joints before finishing.

  2. Panel and Column Radiators

Panel radiators suit many modern and traditional rooms because they offer several output options without taking up excessive floor space. We also install column radiators where the room needs a traditional appearance, including Edinburgh tenements with tall walls and deep window bays.

  3. Designer and Cast-Iron Radiators

We fit designer radiators in vertical and horizontal formats, checking their weight, bracket requirements and connection positions first. Cast-iron radiators require careful handling because of their weight and sectional construction. We check that the floor or wall arrangement can support the chosen model.

  4. Heated Towel Rails and Low-Surface-Temperature Radiators

We install heated towel rails in bathrooms and cloakrooms, with attention to valve access and practical towel clearance. We can also fit low-surface-temperature radiators where reduced casing temperatures are important, including homes used by young children or people with limited mobility.

  5. Radiator Valves and Balancing

We replace thermostatic radiator valves and lockshield valves when they leak, seize or no longer control flow correctly. We then set the valves so radiators warm at a sensible rate. We commonly find that a new valve alone will not help if the valve body, pin or connection has another fault.

  6. Adding or Moving a Radiator

We add or relocate radiators during room alterations, subject to the available pipe route and heating capacity. We discuss the proposed position, furniture layout and pipework before starting. This helps avoid placing a new radiator where curtains, doors or large furniture will restrict heat.

Before you decide

Common Radiator Problems We Solve

  • My Radiator Is Not Heating

A cold radiator does not always need replacing. We check whether water reaches the unit, whether either valve has seized and whether the settings restrict flow. We also compare its performance with nearby radiators. This shows whether the fault sits at the radiator, its valves or elsewhere and needs separate investigation.

  • My Radiator Is Cold at the Top

Air trapped inside a radiator often leaves the top section cold while the lower section still warms. We bleed the radiator, check the pressure where relevant and confirm that it heats afterwards. If air returns repeatedly, we advise on the next diagnostic step rather than treating repeated bleeding as a permanent repair.

  • My Radiator or Valve Is Leaking

Leaks can develop at valve connections, bleed points or the radiator body. We identify the exact source before tightening or replacing parts. Overtightening an old fitting can make matters worse, so we inspect its condition first. For a leaking valve, we may replace the valve or remake the connection, then test it under normal operating conditions.

  • My Radiator Is Rusting or Making Noise

Surface rust may be cosmetic, but bubbling paint, damp patches or a pinhole leak can mean the metal has weakened. We usually recommend replacement when corrosion has breached the radiator body. For ticking, knocking or rushing sounds, we check valves, fixings and trapped air. Some clicking during warm-up comes from normal metal expansion, while persistent noise deserves investigation.

How We Handle Your Radiator Installation & Repair

  • 1. Survey the Radiator and Room

After your initial enquiry, we inspect the radiator, valves, pipework and intended location. For a new installation, we consider the room dimensions, external walls, windows and available mounting space. For a repair, we reproduce the fault where possible and establish which component needs attention.

  • 2. Explain the Work and Quote

We explain whether repair or replacement offers the sensible route and provide a job-specific quote. Your point of contact confirms what we will supply, what work the price covers and any access we need. We do not invent a standard price before checking the radiator type, valves and pipe alterations involved.

  • 3. Isolate, Fit and Repair

We protect the immediate work area, isolate and drain the required section, then complete the agreed installation or repair. We use appropriate brackets and fixings for the wall construction and make the pipe connections without leaving unnecessary exposed pipework. In older Edinburgh properties, we check floors and walls carefully before fixing heavy radiators.

  • 4. Refill, Test and Finish

We refill as required, vent the radiator and inspect every disturbed joint for leaks. We check that valves operate correctly and that the radiator warms as expected. Before leaving, we clear the work area, explain the controls and advise what to watch for after the radiator has completed further heating and cooling cycles.

Common questions

Radiator Installation & Repair Questions

We quote per job because the cost depends on the radiator type, valve choice, wall construction and pipe alterations. Replacing a radiator with a similar model in the same position usually involves less work than adding or relocating one. We inspect the requirements before giving a confirmed quotation.

We recommend using a plumber. Installation involves isolating and draining part of the heating system, making watertight connections, securing the radiator and checking operation after refilling. A poorly made joint can leak after several heating cycles, even if it appears dry when first fitted.

The number depends on access, radiator weight and whether existing pipe centres match. Straight replacements can take less time than cast-iron models, relocated radiators or jobs requiring pipe alterations. We confirm a realistic schedule after assessing each radiator rather than promising a fixed daily number.

Radiators beneath windows warm the cooler air entering around the glazing and can leave useful wall space free elsewhere. This layout remains common beneath bay windows in Edinburgh tenements. It is not compulsory, so we also consider curtains, furniture, wall space and available pipe routes.

Age alone does not decide it. We check for corrosion, leaks, damaged connections, poor output and valves that no longer operate correctly. Replacement often makes sense when the radiator body has weakened or the unit no longer suits the room, but a sound radiator may only need a valve repair or maintenance.

We assess column and cast-iron radiators before recommending work. Leaking valves and accessible connections may be repairable, while corrosion through the radiator body often requires replacement. These radiators can be very heavy, so we also check support, access and safe handling requirements.

Our working hours are 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Availability depends on existing bookings and the type of fault. We ask about active leaks, water damage and whether the radiator can be isolated, then arrange the appropriate appointment. We confirm timing directly when you contact us.

We can move a radiator where there is a practical pipe route and a suitable fixing location. We first check the proposed position, floor construction, wall material and room layout. We then quote for the pipe alterations, valves and radiator work required.
