Service overview

Complete Gas Appliance Installation Services

We install gas cookers, hobs, ovens, range cookers, fires, stoves and heaters in Edinburgh homes. Our work covers more than connecting the appliance. We check the available gas supply, pipe size, isolation valve, connector, ventilation and flue arrangement where required. We commonly find that a replacement appliance has different connection positions or clearance requirements from the old one. We identify these differences before fitting so the installation suits the appliance and its location.

Call us when you are replacing an appliance, changing the kitchen layout or bringing an unused gas connection back into service. We also disconnect old appliances and cap the supply safely before other work begins. In Edinburgh tenements, we pay particular attention to restricted access, existing pipe routes and ventilation. Once fitted, we complete the required checks, commission the appliance and explain its controls. This gives you one contractor responsible for the practical work, testing and handover.

We fit gas appliances alongside boiler installation and keep them running safely with ongoing boiler servicing.

What we cover

What Gas Appliance Installation Covers

  1. Gas Cooker Installation

We fit freestanding gas cookers and check that the connection, stability bracket or chain, clearances and ventilation suit the manufacturer's instructions. We also test the burners and flame operation before handover.

  2. Gas Hob Installation

A gas hob needs the correct cut-out, clearances and accessible isolation point. We commonly coordinate the gas connection with the worktop or kitchen layout, then test every burner for ignition, stability and control.

  3. Gas Oven and Range Cooker Installation

We install gas ovens and range cookers, including models with more demanding space and supply requirements. We check the appliance specification before arrival because connection positions and ventilation needs vary considerably between models.

  4. Gas Fire Installation

We fit suitable gas fires into prepared fireplace openings and check the flue, ventilation and surrounding materials. In Edinburgh properties with period fireplaces, we inspect the existing arrangement rather than assuming a modern appliance can use it unchanged.

  5. Gas Stove and Heater Installation

Gas stoves and fixed gas heaters require suitable pipework, ventilation and, where applicable, a compliant flue route. We assess the proposed position and appliance instructions before confirming what installation work the room needs.

  6. Connections, Disconnections and Commissioning

We install suitable bayonet fittings, flexible cooker connectors, appliance pipework and isolation valves. We can also disconnect an unwanted appliance and cap the gas supply. Every completed fitting includes tightness testing, operational checks and appliance commissioning.

Before you decide

Common Gas Appliance Problems We Solve

  • "I need someone to connect my new gas cooker"

We check the cooker model, available space and existing connection before fitting it. A bayonet point alone does not confirm that the position, connector, ventilation or stability restraint suits the new appliance. We verify each part, connect the cooker and test its operation.

  • "I do not know what the installation will cost"

We quote each job according to the appliance and the work required. The cost changes if we need to alter pipework, fit an isolation valve, provide a suitable connector or resolve access and ventilation issues. We ask for the model details and photographs where helpful before providing a quotation.

  • "My new appliance does not match the old connection"

Manufacturers place inlets in different positions, and larger appliances can need altered pipe routes or clearances. We commonly find this with replacement range cookers and hobs. We assess the existing supply and explain any changes needed before carrying out the installation.

  • "My gas fire will not light or keeps going out"

Ignition trouble can come from the controls, pilot assembly, gas supply or appliance safety devices. We inspect the fire and its installation before deciding whether servicing, repair or replacement makes sense. If we identify an unsafe condition, we explain it clearly and make the appliance safe.

How We Handle Your Gas Appliance Installation

  • 1. Check the appliance and location

After your initial enquiry, we gather the appliance make and model, property details and information about the existing connection. We may request photographs or arrange a visit when pipework, fireplace construction, flue routing or ventilation needs closer inspection.

  • 2. Confirm the work and quotation

We explain what the fitting requires and provide a job-specific quotation. You have a single point of contact for the installation, including any agreed pipework changes, disconnection work or preparation needed before the appliance arrives.

  • 3. Install and test

We isolate the supply, prepare the connection and fit the appliance in line with its instructions. We then complete a tightness test, check ventilation and flue performance where relevant, carry out a combustion and spillage test, and test ignition, burners, controls and safety functions.

  • 4. Commission and hand over

We commission the appliance and show you how to operate its controls. We leave the work area tidy, provide the relevant documentation and explain any maintenance points specific to the model. If you have a question after completion, you can contact the same Edinburgh team that arranged the work.

Common questions

Gas Appliance Installation Questions

We quote per job because the cost depends on the appliance, existing connection and access. A straightforward replacement differs from a fitting that needs new pipework, an isolation valve or ventilation work. We review the details before giving you a price.

You need an engineer who is Gas Safe Registered and qualified for the relevant appliance category. Connecting a cooker involves more than attaching a hose. We check the gas supply, connector, stability restraint, clearances, ventilation and appliance operation.

We recommend arranging a Gas Safe engineer. An existing bayonet does not prove that the connector, location or gas supply suits the new cooker. We inspect the installation, make the connection and complete tightness and operational tests.

Yes, subject to a site assessment. We commonly check older pipe routes, limited kitchen space, ventilation and access through shared stairs. For fires and heaters, we also inspect the flue arrangement and the proposed appliance location.

We first assess the opening, chimney or flue, hearth, ventilation and surrounding materials. Period features do not always suit a modern gas fire without preparation. We explain what can remain and what work the chosen appliance requires.

Timing depends on the appliance and the existing installation. A prepared replacement connection usually takes less time than a job involving altered pipework, flue checks or fireplace work. We confirm the expected duration after reviewing the appliance and location.

We take bookings from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Availability varies with existing work and the preparation your installation needs. We confirm an appointment once we have the appliance details, address and scope of work.

Gas hobs remain available, although energy policy and new-build specifications continue to change. We install suitable models where the property has an appropriate gas supply, ventilation and layout. We can also disconnect and cap an unwanted hob connection safely.
